Book Challenge 2011

Two non-fiction books (of any length) a month plus one challenge a month. (10 pts per book)

Here are the challenges:

January – January is the month of resolutions. Read a book you’ve been meaning to read for a long time.

February – Groundhog’s Day happens in February. Read a book about an animal.

March – Beware the Ides of March. Read a mystery.

April – A very important person was born in April… Read a book on marriage.

May – Emerald is the birthstone for May. Read a book with a green cover.

June – I got this idea from a group on Goodreads, but I love it. It’s a longer challenge, but once again, I love it. :) June is the month of weddings. There’s the saying “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” Read an old favorite, a book you’ve never read before, a book you borrowed either from the library or a friend, and a book that has “blue” either in the title or the cover is blue.

July – July is vacation month. Read a book about a place that you want to visit, but have not yet visited.

August – Back to school in August. Read a book from either a summer reading list (high school, of course), or this link: http://www.neh.gov/projects/summertimefavorites.html.

September – The first comic strip published in an American newspaper was published on September 11, 1875. Read either a comic book or a manga book. (Is that a correct way to use that word? I have no idea. But you know what I mean.)

October – Columbus landed in America in October. Read a book concerning America. (I realize that is pretty wide open. I wanted some options.)

November - November is the best month of the year. Read a fun book.

December – Both Jane Austen and Walt Disney were born in December. Read a book that is somehow related to either of them. (Spin-offs, about the park, biographies, relating to the movies, etc….)

Bonus: Any other books you read this year over 75 pages. (5 pts per book)

These were all really cute challenges. I look forward to seeing you carry it out and perhaps even myself on some of it as well:)

Oh, and by the way, if I am accurate, I know for SURE I at least earned 54 points last year. I know, big huh:)?

Love you Ra:)

I like it! But I'll need lots of reminders about what book I'm supposed to be on and what's coming up next......

Two nonfiction a month?! Oh my. I can tell you already I'm going to fail THAT! ha ha. But I'll give the others a go. This coming year I'm going to be focusing a lot more on juvenile fiction, since I feel a bit YAed out, and I'll be buying specifically for that genre, so I want to get to know it better. (I should know it better anyhow!)

I'll try to do the monthly challenges. I'm so slow at reading, I don't think I'll get to the 2 nonfictions (but I'll try to read some church-related books, so that may get me some of them). Sounds like fun though!

Aunt Mona - I'll try to be good this year at reminding frequently, especially since there are monthly challenges.

Heidi - I thought two nonfiction a month would be a fantastic challenge since it's so hard for me. :) Have fun with your juvenile fiction!

Seth - Church-related books totally count! I plan on definitely reading some of those.

Question - Can more than one book fill the goal for the month? Or can we only fill the goal with one book and all others count as 5 pointers?

And if we read more than 2 nonfiction in a month, do each of them count as 10 points, or are they also just 5?
