The Slipper and the Rose

So, who here has seen "The Slipper and the Rose?" It's a musical version of Cinderella and since the Sherman brothers wrote the music (also did things like Mary Poppins), it is DE-LIGHTFUL! My friend was quoting that movie a few days ago and I just had to post something about it. You can watch one of my favorite songs here:

Or if that one doesn't suit your fancy, try:

Favorite quotes anyone?

I love when Prince Edward says "Our policemen couldn't find a missing haystack let alone a needle."

Or the king says, "Kings never cheat! They adapt to circumstances, but they never cheat!"

Or the dowager Queen says, "There's someone in the room."

Or a very favorite - Prince Edward: "You mark my words, before you can count to ten, through that door, with the odious punctuality of our neighbors much vaunted recently invented hideously irritating cuckoo clock will come our dear and loyal subject, the ever unctuous Lord High Chamberlain."
John: "Five. Six. Seven!"
Prince Edward: "He's improving. One of these days, he's going to achieve the elusive ten minute mile."

I could go forever.

[sigh of contentment]

Oh don't even get me started!!!! Ha ha. Though I may leave you with

"Sycophant--you don't have to agree with everything I say."

"Oh no. Who let him in?"

"I remember my first ball!" "Yes, well, let's not go into the realms of fantasy shall we?"

"You fool! You frightened her!"

"Half the size of your mother's! Oh, you'd better take it."

"Who, who's he marrying" "Well, at the moment the wrong girl, obviously."

"You're the same as Snow White. You girls never do as you're told."

Oooh--Great Quote!

I'm waiting for the DVD to become less than $60!!! That's how much I bought the VHS of P&P, and in only 2 years, the DVD was less than that. I'm just worried people will realize how fantastic "Slipper..." is and buy all the copies!

Heidi's right, Serene. Great quote! How about "He's got an obsession with teeth" to go along with it. :)

And $60 for the DVD?! Mom got us both a copy for $5 each. Oi.

Serene, if you come visit, you can watch it with me. :)

Getting a big kick just out of the title alone, "protocoligorically correct."
I'm starting to wonder if I've ever seen this

This is one of my ALL time favorite movies! My mom and sisters and I would watch it together on her bed and laugh and cry! I LOVE this movie. Now our copy is all scratched up... totally depressing - I NEED a copy. Do you know where I could find a cheap one?

Favorite line is by the fairy godmother (the BEST character ever written): "Things are never quite what you think they are. Take me for example; I'm not what I seem. Mind you, I don't dress the part, and for a very good reason: human nature. Oh well, we won't go into what I think of human nature. But if I were to go about my business all sparkle and glitter, quite apart from looking absurd - because despite what they write in those storybooks for children it is a most unsuitable costume for a grown woman, I should never be able to sort out the worthy from the unworthy; don't you agree?"

Sarah - You can come and watch it with us. :)

Bri - I love that quote too. I remember one of the reasons I loved visiting my grandparents (other than seeing them) was they had a recorded from TV version of this. I LOVED it! My mom just found it on a bargain rack. I guess just keep your eyes open! Good luck!

Sara Lyn - This has nothing to do with your post, but I do love this movie. I just got back from a wonderful day of visiting Sarah and Becky. It made me realize how much I enjoy all of you so much and love you lots! Just wanted to tell you that!

Shara - I'm homesick for you.

HOORAY!!! Lets all get together and have a Slipper and the Rose party!!

So, I was wrong. Just checked Amazon. The 2000 version on DVD (best version to get, as the 2007 is 20 minutes shorter) is now $99 used or $200 new. I can rationalize fantastic $20 cow slippers from PEI, but not THAT much for even one of the best ever movies. For now I'll just live with the taped off TV version which I permanently borrowed from my family's video collection. Now if only I owned a TV....

Librarian me couldn't let it just sit at that. So I caved and checked eBay. You can get a copy for $22!!!! And only $3 shipping. It plays all regions, and it's the 2000 release. The cover is different from what we typically see...not to mention it's written in Portuguese. But who would care about the movie cover if they can get such an excellent movie for such a good price (compared to $200!)?

The seller has great reviews, and you can always say you got your copy from Brazil. There are 10 available for "buy it now." Well, OK. 9 after my purchase. :-) It's totally a worthwhile buy for me, as it's one of my favorites. Plus, I've watched the pricing go up over the last 5 years. (The $60 copy was when I purchased it as a wedding gift not even 2 years ago.) Not to mention most of the places I look say there are no copies left.

Sorry to advertise on your blog, SaraLyn! Just had to spread the good news. I'll probably come across that $5 copy on a bargain rack some time down the road, but I didn't want to take my chances, just in case.
