Some nonsense

At our hos s, nin cans ee tha hving mult dif plf s genl impacts oen deptl. Our exu s tell eb tht integn is important bc wf mg s more funcl. Does this noj meet yur satis?

That is what I type. This is what would appear in Word:

At our hospitals, anyone can see that having multiple different platforms generally impacts everyone departmentally. Our executives tell everybody that integration is important because workflow management is more functional. Does this knowledge meet your satisfaction?

Those sentences are absolute nonsense, but my Word prog (I mean, program) can automatically correct any of them. I LOVE autocorrect! Typing sure does go a lot faster when you don't have to type out every word. I esp (especially) love sentences where more words are "shorts" than spelled-out. I'm always adding new words and looking at my sentences up top makes me think, "Why haven't I found a short for "important" yet?" Oh, well.

If anyone thinks of some great words to short, let me know.

Do you make those abbreviations up for yourself, or are they part of the transcription?

I always write "imp" in my journals. Does that work? I think you would enjoy learning braille contractions. I use those all the time.

Heidi - I think I'll use impr for important and imprs for importance. imp would probably be impossible to me. Thanks for the idea! And how can I learn about Braille abbr? That sounds smart.

Well, it's not the greatest layout, but here's one site with the contractions: http://www.99main.com/~charlief/brl/brl2.htm

Some of course, won't work, as they require certain preceding dots. But otherwise, there are a decent amount. Have fun!

Do you use word expanders? Our teacher showed us some of hers, and they're awesome! Really increase typing speed!

Word expanders? Like what? I don't even know what you mean, but I knew you'd probably have some great ideas! Are you talking about things like I can type "prog" for "progress" and then hit space and type "s" and get "progresses" or "g" and get "progressing" or whatever? I'd love to hear about it.

Wish I had something to contribute to this. I don't.
Still love you however:)

I think we're talking about the same thing...our teacher was talking about some sort of software we get with our Advanced Medical Transcription class where we can create abbreviations that expand into words/phrases that we type often. Like you could type in CABG and it would expand to coronary artery bypass graft.

Yep. We're talking about the same thing. I just do it in Word. :) I LOVE it. I really need to work out some common phrases. I just do words for the most part. Except for "naf" which is "and a half." I've heard them referred to as shorts, arbitraries and now expands. :)
